Fresh, ripe apricots are in the markets now.
You can eat them from hand, or use them in fruit compotes, cakes, ice cream and wherever else your taste takes you. This fruit is full of vitamins A and C.
Look for plump apricots that give to gentle pressure and have a delicately appealing aroma. The color will be golden.
New ways with apricots include adding them to side dishes and desserts that you prepare on the grill, and tossing chopped apricots into recipes for salsa, chutneys and relishes.
Oscar Mayer has introduced a hot dog and bun combo that is ready in less than a minute. New Fast Franks feature Oscar Mayer hot dogs and buns packaged together. All you need to do is unwrap the hot dog, stick it in the bun and microwave it on the tray included for 35 seconds. The bun stays soft, but not too soft. Look for them at some Meijer and Kroger stores. A package of three regular hot dogs is $2.79 and a package of three beef hot dogs is $2.99.
A new line of watermelon juices is now available. Sundia Watermelon juices are in some Hiller's Markets and Whole Foods Markets. The four flavors are less acidic and sweeter than some citrus-based juices. First is a simple watermelon juice. The other flavors are watermelon limeade and blackberry and pomegranate varieties. A plus for these drinks is that they are 100% juice and watermelon is high in the antioxidant lycopene. A 12-ounce bottle is about $1.89. |
