Move Over, Orange Juice! Watermelon Juice is the New Superfood!
Sundia Corporation delivers the taste of summer in Sundia Watermelon Juice -- naturally rich in vitamin A, B6, C and cancer-fighting Lycopene

SAN FRANCISCO - Sept. 28, 2005 -- For those who think citrus juices are too acidic, there is now a sweeter option: Sundia Watermelon Juice. Coming soon to produce sections across the country, Sundia Corporation delivers the superfood benefits of watermelon in a great tasting juice.

Founded by Bradford Oberwager, a Silicon Valley entrepreneur, Sundia Corporation becomes the first mass-manufacturer of watermelon juice, a great tasting alternative to orange juice and packed with cancer-fighting lycopene. Oberwager formed the company after purchasing the patent for producing and formulating watermelon juice. “It's not easy to juice a watermelon, but Sundia has figured it out. I'm very impressed with the result,” said Stephen Williamson, former CEO of Odwalla, Inc. The company's executive team includes two former senior managers who helped grow Odwalla, Inc.

Finally! Watermelon's Super Nutrition is Bottled

Believed to originate in the Kalahari Desert of South Africa, watermelon has been harvested for thousands of years, making it one of the oldest fruits known to mankind. Yet while its thirst-quenching properties during the dog days of summer has made it among the most popular fruits, only in recent years did watermelon gain widespread recognition for its superfood status. Beyond tasting good, the public is finally learning that watermelon is loaded with vitamins A, B6, C, potassium, and lycopene, the most powerful of the antioxidants. And only now is it finally available in 100% juice form.

“Given watermelon's superfood status, its fruit juice has been a long time coming,” said Oberwager, chairman and CEO. “With Sundia, people can now enjoy watermelon's health benefits year-round. People of all ages and from all cultures love the taste of watermelon, so we're confident that it will quickly become a breakfast juice alternative. It's so good that many will want to drink it throughout the day.”

Sundia Watermelon Juice Packs More Lycopene than Tomatoes!

Watermelon is loaded with lycopene, the powerful antioxidant that studies suggest may lower risks for certain cancers and cardiovascular diseases. Tomatoes were generally used as the lycopene source during these studies, creating the perception that tomatoes are the best source of lycopene. While the actual amount depends on the variety and growing conditions, watermelon can, in fact, contain up to 40% more lycopene than an equivalent weight of tomatoes, according to a recent study by the South Central Agricultural Research Laboratory in Lane, Oklahoma and the Phytonutrients Laboratory in Beltsville, Maryland. More importantly, the body readily absorbs the lycopene in watermelon, whereas for maximum absorption, tomatoes must first be heat-treated.

“People don't eat tomato sauces all the time, and you certainly can't get lycopene in a glass of orange juice,” says Oberwager. “With Sundia Watermelon Juice, people can get a daily dose of lycopene, potassium, and high amounts of vitamins A, B6, and C. Fat and cholesterol-free and 100% juice, it's perfect for people of all ages.” Sundia Watermelon Juice is available in 12 and 64 ounce bottles.

California Consumers First to Taste Sundia Watermelon Juice

Sundia Corporation is busily expanding its distribution nationwide, but for now, Sundia Watermelon Juice is available in the produce section at many California grocers, including Mollie Stone's, SaveMart, and FoodMaxx. “Sundia Watermelon Juice represents the most exciting innovation in the watermelon and produce industries since the introduction of the personal watermelon,” said William Watson, former CEO of the National Watermelon Promotions Board. Such testimonials are making it easy for the new juice manufacturer to quickly expand distribution. Without a direct competitor, the Company expects to be distributed nationwide within the coming months.
